I was pleased to catch up with director, Pip Bradshaw, and chair, Ruth Gibb, to find out about their forthcoming production, the origins of which lie with writers trying to find a new vehicle for Shane Richie after he’d played Danny Zuko in Grease, and so Boogie Nights was born: a jukebox musical which, featuring some of the best disco songs of the 1970’s, tells the story of Roddy and Debs and involves a pregnancy, cheating on partners, and a wedding. So, a little adult content which necessitates parental guidance but most definitely nothing to do with the movie of the same name.

The Octagon are Working with Out of Joint and the Royal Court Theatre on this long overdue revival of Rita, Sue and Bob Too (Wed 6th – Sat 23rd September 2017). It was first written for the Royal Court Theatre 1982 by rough diamond Andrea Dunbar, and is a brutally honest portrayal of working class life on a bleak council estate by someone who lived that life.

Aside from being seen by 60 million people worldwide and a staggering 10% of the UK's population Mamma Mia was the original jukebox musical spawning a host of inferior copycats.

But oddly despite being a smash hit all over the globe the show fashioned from the peerless ABBA songbook has never toured the UK until this year, and it is set to drop into Leeds Grand Theatre for six weeks from May 30th. So why has it never done a full UK tour until 2017?
