Rehearsals are underway for Wakefield Youth Music Theatre’s take on the Olivier Award-winning Madness musical Our House, running at Theatre Royal Wakefield from Wednesday 30th August to Saturday 9th September.
The hugely talented young performers of this established company have become well known for their professional productions of some of the world’s best-loved musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats and Oliver! and this year they bring their magic to this touching and high energy love story.
Written by Tim Firth with music and lyrics by Madness, Our House tells the story of Camden lad Joe Casey, who has his whole life ahead of him. On his 16th birthday, while trying to impress new love Sarah, he makes a fateful decision that has far reaching consequences for everyone. This coming-of-age musical about growing up, family values and love is told to ska legends Madness’ classic hits, including Baggy Trousers, It Must Be Love and Driving in My Car.
Louise Dennison returns to direct, having previously worked with Theatre Royal Wakefield on Jesus Christ Superstar, Strictly Musicals, Cats and many more; alongside regular Musical Director Jim Lunt.
Our House also marks the start of a new season of Passport to Theatre, Theatre Royal Wakefield’s initiative for tackling social isolation with supported Theatre visits, where guests will receive a special welcome, refreshments and a post-show discussion with the artistic team. Previous beneficiaries have included Horbury Senior Citizens Group, Age UK, Sunshine & Showers support group, bereavement groups and self-management support groups.
Visits are made possible through the support of a number of generous grants from trusts and foundations such as Yorkshire Health Charity and Creative Minds, and through this year’s Passport to Theatre corporate supporter Minster Law.
Our House runs at Theatre Royal Wakefield from Wednesday 30th August to Saturday 9th September, tickets are on sale now through the Box Office on 01924 211 311 or online at www.theatreroyalwakefield.co.uk
