A whistleblowing expert fights against the majority when politicians put power and profit before public safety. 3 years on from the Brexit vote and 2 years on from Grenfell, the play questions the effectiveness of our democracy when we trust an uninformed majority and reject the advice of experts and cries out against the establishment who put profit before public safety.
Gosnold’s thrilling, energetic, fresh and relevant new version brings Ibsen’s text crashing into 21st Century London, with a cast the reflects the diverse community of Kensington and Chelsea.
Playing at one of London’s newest Off-West End Theatres (The Playground Theatre), in Latimer Road, in the shadow of Grenfell Tower, an angry, political and personal story plays out between a company of some of the country’s finest up and coming actors from stage and screen.
“This is such a vital piece of theatre; we’re performing the play with an incredibly talented and diverse young cast. We have a responsibility to the victims and survivors of Grenfell fire, and the wider community. This play is for them. This is keeping the conversation going, when it is continuing to be forgotten by politicians.” Jolley Gosnold (Director/Writer)
Here Now Ensemble believe theatre should be available to all. Therefore, top price tickets are £22. There are discounts available for students, OAPs, Under 18s, Local Residents and Drama/Theatre Students. There are £15 Early Bird Tickets for every performance, and the production will be teaming up with charities, community groups and arts organisations to ensure the play reaches a diverse audience that might not normally go to the theatre.
The Playground Theatre, formerly a bus depot, was set up as a creative space for innovative theatre artists of all disciplines to come and "play" with their imaginative ideas. As a registered charity with support from the Arts Council, The Welcome Trust, Esmee Fairbarn and others, numerous projects, initiated here, went on to venues such as The Young Vic, The Hampstead Theatre, The West Yorkshire Playhouse and many others.
