Ice-skating spectacular Disney on Ice transports audiences to 4 faraway lands in an amazing adventure.
Disney presents its Silver Anniversary Celebration. The stage transforms multiple times into completely different lands. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck take you along this adventure, to many different magical places that are the scene of some of the most popular Disney films.

The choice of films, out of the many popular Disney films, that they chose to adapt for the ice I think were really very good choices.  It gave a brief overview of the storyline, showing the main popular songs in each of the 4 films, first you travelled to the African Pride Lands, to visit Simba, Nala, Pumbaa, Timone and Rafiki. This was an amazing way to begin the adventure; award-winning international ice skaters danced their way onto stage. Very impressive of the skater playing Pumbaa, (and the skater who played Nana in the Peter Pan section) being able to skate in that costume is an incredible feat in itself.

As well as The Lion King being featured, there was also The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and finally, the smash hit Frozen. I thought the transformation into Frozen’s location of Arendelle was amazing, how the whole ice rink transformed into a new location each time was incredible.  The Director of this section, Patty Vincent brought the amazing film to life on the ice. It really added to the whole performance. With all of the characters telling the story of frozen, with amazing effects.

The use of costume designed by Arthur Boccia was a vital part of the performance to make the characters as believable as possible, which was pulled off incredibly.

The use of giant inflatable characters for Ursula in ‘The Little Mermaid’ section and the crocodile in the ‘Peter Pan’ section made it even more amazing, they were so big that all of the children around me looked in shock and awe.

Just the fact it was on ice made it even more magical, how they glided across the stage looking so flawless and dancing. Exaggerating every movement so every child could see. There were so many amazing ice skating tricks, including some princesses being spun round by their feet, flips and turns. It was truly mesmerizing.

I took my little sister to this, as young children are who it is aimed at, even though I enjoyed it so much. It is truly a magical experience, which was proven by her reaction to the whole thing. She was completely in awe, which I think shows exactly how magic it is. She cried with happiness at Captain Hook and the pirates, in the Peter Pan segment. Looking around you could see everyone in similar states, there is something magical about seeing the characters you have grown to love so much throughout your childhood being suddenly very close to you, dancing and singing.

The Disney on Ice tour continues on from Liverpool where it is playing until Sunday with stops in Birmingham, London, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds and Nottingham on the rest of their Silver Anniversary celebration tour. It is something you shouldn’t miss if you get the chance to go!
